Yuleba, don’t get your skates on just yet!

Construction underway on the Yuleba skate park

The Yuleba community will soon roll into a new era of outdoor fun with the completion of the region’s newest skatepark.

Council is requesting residents wait just a little longer before getting their skates on.

While construction is now complete and the concrete has well and truly cured, the final touches are still taking root – quite literally.

Council’s Sport & Recreation portfolio spokesperson, Cr Peter Flynn, said the extra time to allow the turf to establish is essential to ensure the long-term sustainability and safety of the site.

“We know the community is incredibly excited to try out the new facility, and we can’t wait to see it buzzing with activity,” Cr Flynn said.

“However, to ensure the surrounding grass and landscaping are properly established, we’re asking everyone to hold off on entering the site until we give the official go-ahead.”

“If disturbed too early, it could lead to damage and result in a longer delay before the skatepark can be fully opened to the public.”

Cr Flynn said that fencing will remain in place temporarily to protect the turf.

“We’re nearly there, and it’s looking fantastic,” he said.

“We just need a little more patience from the community to let nature do its work. Once the grass is ready, we’ll open the gates and celebrate properly!”

Delivered as part of a $1.25 million investment in Yuleba’s liveability, under the Community Investment Funding through the APLNG Worker Transition Agreement, the skatepark represents a key step toward a more vibrant and connected future for the town.

The skatepark is on track to open for the June/July school holidays, and planning is already underway for the hosting of an exciting school holiday event.

Further details will be shared soon as part of the Yuleba/Wallumbilla School Holiday Program.
