Selective Inspection Program begins

Council’s annual Selective Inspection Program begins today, Monday 1 September and will run until 28 November 2025.
The program helps Council meet its obligations under legislation, including maintaining an accurate register of dogs within the region, while also supporting community safety through responsible dog ownership.
As part of the program, Council’s Community Safety staff will visit, and if necessary, enter yards where they have reasonable belief that an unregistered or regulated dog may be present.
Inspections may take place at premises located in the townships of Amby, Injune, Jackson, Mitchell, Muckadilla, Mungallala, Roma, Surat, Wallumbilla, and Yuleba.
Cr Amber Davis, Portfolio Spokesperson for Community Safety, said Council encourages responsible animal ownership to help make the region more pet-friendly and safe for all residents.
“We strive to make the Maranoa a pet-friendly region to live in, while also recognising that pet ownership can impact your neighbours and others in the community,” Cr Davis said.
“The Selective Inspection Program ensures we meet State Government requirements, but also our obligation to our community to ensure safety.
"Dog registration directly supports both public interest and government accountability, ensuring that laws are enforced fairly for everyone's benefit.”
“I encourage all dog owners within the Maranoa Region to ensure that their dogs are kept on their properties and are registered and microchipped in accordance with State Government legislation.”
In the lead-up to the inspections, Council has shared information with residents to encourage responsible pet ownership and help reduce the need for fines.
Council records show there are currently over 1,000 dogs with outstanding registration renewals, and owners are encouraged to update their details as soon as possible.
To avoid a fine, and be a responsible pet owner, please register your animal via BPAY, online, phone or visit Council’s Customer Service Centres.
