Your Cat. Your Community’s Welfare. Your Responsibility.

Our Community Safety Officers are under increasing pressure — and it’s not just dogs.

Wandering cats are causing real problems for the community, for wildlife and for the cats themselves.

Every week, our officers deal with cats that are causing a nuisance - or worse - injured or killed by vehicles. Some are people’s pets. Others are strays. All are victims of the same issue: roaming.

Roaming cats don’t just face danger - they create it.

They fight with other animals, disturb neighbours, kill native wildlife and contribute to a growing feral cat population that’s nearly impossible to control.

Some Facts:

  • 61 Cats have already been trapped this year for wandering.
  • Dozens of injured or deceased cats are reported to Council every month.
  • Roaming cats are a major contributor to urban feral cat populations.
  • The same rules apply for cats as for dogs - and that includes registration, microchipping and containment.

We need your help to change this.

Here’s how cat owners can make a difference:

  • Keep your cat contained - It’s a myth that cats "need to roam". They can live happy, safe lives indoors or in cat enclosures.
  • Desex your cat - It reduces unwanted litters and roaming behaviour.
  • Register and microchip - If your cat gets out, this is the fastest way to bring them home.
  • Be a good neighbour - Wandering cats disturb others. They kill wildlife, damage property and create conflict.

Every preventable injury or death takes a toll — on our community, on our wildlife, and on the people who have to respond.

Let’s work together to be responsible cat owners.

It’s not just about your cat - it’s about your community.
