Wallumbilla Multipurpose Facility named
Council received the results of a recent community poll on the naming of Wallumbilla’s new multipurpose facility. This followed previous extensive consultation with community groups, which identified two potential names.
The poll, which attracted strong community participation, saw The Wheat Shed emerge as the preferred name over Wallumbilla Community Hub. Council has officially adopted The Wheat Shed as the name of the new facility. A date for the official opening will be announced soon.
Proposed Show Holiday dates for 2026
Council has endorsed proposed local show holidays for 2026, which are now submitted for Ministerial approval:
- Roma Show: Scheduled for Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 May 2026, with Friday 8 May nominated as the public holiday (endorsed by the Roma Show Society).
- Mitchell Show: Scheduled for Monday 11 to Tuesday 12 May 2026, with Tuesday 12 May endorsed as the public holiday (endorsed by the Mitchell Show Society).
Once approved, these dates will be officially gazetted for next year.
Support for Roma Touch Association
Council has agreed to support the Roma Touch Association in its application to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for an upgrade of lighting at the touch football fields.
If successful, Council will contribute $10,000 towards the estimated $140,000 project, complementing the association’s own $30,000 contribution and a pending $100,000 grant application.
The upgraded lighting will enhance safety and allow for more evening games and training, as well as support a wider range of community events and sports activities.
Wild Dog Scalp Bounty Policy endorsed
Council has formally adopted the Wild Dog Scalp Bounty Policy, supporting local efforts to reduce wild dog numbers.
The policy aligns with Council’s strategic priorities and responds directly to community concerns. It also supports Council’s responsibilities under the Biosecurity Act 2014 (Qld) for managing invasive species.
Contract awarded for Cycleway Upgrade
Roma Earthmoving Pty Ltd (trading as DMAC) has been awarded the contract for the Miscamble & Queen Streets Cycleway Upgrade.
The project is jointly funded under the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants program and aims to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
This intersection is a key part of Roma’s Principal Cycling Network, linking the eastern residential zone (via Miscamble St), the CBD (via Queen St), and the school and western suburbs (via Miscamble and Currey Streets).
A further update will be provided once construction timelines and start dates are confirmed.
