Community Announcement: Parvo Virus in dogs

Vets are reporting that there has been a spread of Parvo Virus in the Maranoa resulting in the death of a number of pet dogs.
Parvo Virus is a highly contagious that spreads and kills very quickly. (Fatal in 42 to 78 Hours). The virus can lay dormant in the affected ground for 6 years if not treated properly.
Signs of Parvo Virus are diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, dehydration, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fever, and rapid weight loss. It is mainly passed on through contact of infected faeces.
Council pleads for all animal owners to make sure their animals are vaccinated against the virus and to be vigilant when socialising their animals with other dogs.
If you suspect your dog has the virus, contact your local vet for a test kit and to isolate the dog immediately. Positive cases should present to the local vet for treatment and further advice.
