Community and not-for-profit organisations across the Maranoa can apply for assistance to achieve their vision thanks to the opening of round two in Council's Community Grants Program.

The second round opened today, Monday 10 February.

Whether they are looking to secure funding for their next project, activity or event, all community and not-for-profit groups across the region are encouraged to apply.

Spokesperson for Economic Development and Events, Cr Joh Hancock, said Council valued the work of communtity groups and was pleased to be able to support them through the grants.

"Council recognises the valuable contribution these groups make to the liveability of our region," Cr Hancock said.

"These community grants support the volunteers who do so much to keep the community strong while opening new doors to exciting opportunities and growth.

"We look forward to seeing the projects that apply for funding and the impact they will have with the assistance we can offer."

One of the grant categories is small grants, sponsored by Senex Energy.

Senex Community Relations Manager Trevor Robertson said Senex was proud to have partnered with Maranoa Regional Council since 2019 to support projects of local organisations through the joint Small Community Grants program.

"With Senex's support these grants have funded local clubs, organisations and associations to improve facilities and host events," Mr Robertson said.

"Partnering with Maranoa Regional Council allows Senex to directly support the community it lives, works and operates in.

"These small grants make a big difference and have a very real and direct impact by making our community just that little bit better."

There are three types of grants avaliable:

  • Small Grant (co-funded by Senex Energy): $500 - $3,000
  • Community Grant: $3,001 - $10,000
  • Major Grant: $10,001 - $20,000

They come under six categories:

  • Community Development
  • Community Events
  • Culture and Heritage
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Environment
  • Economic Development

In the first round of the 2024/25 Community Grants program grants were awarded for a variety of projects.

Projects were as diverse as accommodation upgrades to the Injune Kindergarten, music stand light for Maranoa Music, funding for the Surat Local Ambulance and the Begonia Sports Club Christmas events.

"This is just one of the ways Council gives back to the community," Cr Hancock said.
