Works to upgrade festoon lights in McDowall Street, Roma

Council would like to advise Roma residents and visitors that it will be undertaking upgrade works to the Festoon Lighting that hang across McDowall Street between Hawthorne and Wyndham Streets.

Council would like to advise Roma residents and visitors that it will be undertaking upgrade works to the Festoon Lighting that hang across McDowall Street between Hawthorne and Wyndham Streets. The current light system has been in place for many years and is at the point where they require considerable ongoing maintenance.  The upgrade will see the existing lights replaced with more energy efficient and programmable LED’s.

Council recognises that any works in the central business district have the potential to impact businesses. To help minimise disruption to the community and businesses in the area, the works for this project have been scheduled to be undertaken at night.

Work is planned to start on Monday, 5 February to Thursday, 8 February 2024 then Monday, 12 February to Thursday, 15 February 2024.  Council is hopeful to have all works completed well within this period, however the dates are based on the time that has been initially estimated to complete the works. To further mitigate impact, there will be no works scheduled on Friday night or the weekend.

Work hours will be between 7:00pm to 5:00am.  The work times may vary between these hours to help balance project activities and specific business needs.

McDowall Street between Hawthorne and Wyndham Streets will be closed to traffic in certain areas and traffic management signage will be in place to guide the community around the affected streets during this period. Detours and signage will be established to guide motorists and pedestrians safely around the CBD.

Businesses in the area will be consulted and the contractor will endeavour to accommodate business and community needs as best as possible.
