Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Tyson Golder has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the announced closure of the National Australia Bank's branch in Mitchell, set to take place on Thursday, 19 October 2023. The closure will have significant implications for the community's access to vital financial services.

Mayor Golder reassured residents, saying “I would like to assure you that Council is working closely with the Hon Anne Leahy MP Member for Warrego and other stakeholders like the Booringa Action Group to explore various viable options and solutions that would minimise the impact on residents and businesses in the region.”

"This closure comes as a great disappointment," said Cr Golder. “We understand the importance of having accessible banking services for residents and business, and we need urgent measures to address the situation."

The closure of National Australia Bank's Mitchell branch will undoubtedly affect resident’s ability to access everyday banking services, loans, and financial advice.

“Mitchell has had a population growth at a time when NAB is closing its Mitchell branch. I have asked NAB to work with Council to come up with a solution not to close, proposing alternative options like instead of sponsoring a sporting event, sponsor our community in Mitchell by reversing the closure”, Cr Golder said.

Mayor Golder concluded, "We are facing a challenging situation, but I am confident that, together, we will find solutions. Our community's well-being is our utmost priority, and we will work closely to find a sustainable solution."
