Roma's renowned Big Rig Tower and Tree Walk has received a highly prized commendation at the Australian Institute of Architects’ Darling Downs/West Moreton Regional Architecture Awards.

Collecting the commendation in Public Architecture Category, Roma’s Bigger Big Rig and the 100-metre-long Tree Walk by DM2 Architecture was the first of the Queensland Regional Architecture Awards to be announced, and now progresses to the prestigious Queensland Architecture Awards, to be announced on Thursday, 22 June 2023.

Mayor Tyson Golder said that the Bigger Big Rig and Tree Walk is a major tourist attraction for Roma, and he hopes it’s recognised for the amazing piece of architecture it is.

“Congratulations to DM2 Architecture for receiving a Regional Commendation in the Public Architecture Category for their Bigger Big Rig Project. The Big Rig Tower and Tree Walk has set a huge milestone to the Maranoa region’s tourism industry since it opened in May 2022 and has been a must-do destination in Outback Queensland,” said Cr Golder.

The Bigger Big Rig Project is a 40-metre-high observation tower beside the historic EMSCO rig. Visitors are able to travel in a lift up beside the EMSCO Rig and see the 100-year-old structure rung by rung.

The Big Rig and Tree Walk are open every day of the week, and more information, including bookings, can be found here
