Maranoa Regional Council is undertaking a community consultation with residents on giving their opinions on whether Council should purchase the winery to save it for the community.

Mayor Tyson Golder said, “Council is proposing to transform the Romavilla Winery into a boutique working winery and meeting space that benefits the community and visitors. Any major redevelopment or improvements to the site would not be done by Council (meaning not funded) but could be undertaken by a not-for-profit foundation or similar entity through grants”, he concluded.

The Romavilla Winery, established in 1877, it is the oldest winery in Queensland and was open until 2012. It won over 500 awards at major wine shows in its time. The winery building is a large timber and corrugated iron pioneer building with a high roof, providing considerable historical interest.
