The Maranoa Regional Council is excited to announce sponsorship of the Roma Saleyards Acquisitive Sculpture Prize as part of the 2024 Sculptures Outback event, valued at $35,000.

Seeking applications in celebrating the largest cattle selling centre in Australia, the Saleyards are seeking a sculpture that represents a beef breed common to the Maranoa.

Entry form, images, artist statement and artist biography are due by Friday 3 May 2024.

Successful applications must follow the stated brief.

The sculpture must be a recognisable representation of a beef breed common to the Maranoa Region. It can be made with any medium suitable for long-term exposure in an outdoor setting and fit on a base no larger than three metres by three metres. All safety issues should be taken into consideration.

Judges will award points based on:

  • Artistic merit, wow factor, skill of construction and finish
  • Representation of a local beef breed
  • Practical considerations, safety and long-term outdoor exposure

Roma Saleyards General Manager Daniel Haslop states, “As Australia’s largest selling centre and marketplace of choice, we are searching for a sculpture that is reflective of the vibrant beef industry of the Maranoa. A sculpture that will stand proudly on display when placed in front of The Val Harms Interactive Centre, enhancing the social and economic value that the Roma Saleyards contributes to the wider community”.

To apply for consideration, fill out the entry form on the Maranoa Regional Council website. Conditions of entry information can be found on the Maranoa Regional Council website.

The winning sculpture will be announced at the opening of the Sculptures Out Back event.
