A project that has been a focus of Council and the community for many years has taken a major step toward becoming a reality.

At the Council Meeting on Wednesday, 24 January, Council selected local builder SM & KA Duff Builders Pty Ltd to construct the new Wallumbilla Multi-purpose Building at the Wallumbilla Calico Cottage and Heritage Precinct.

Since work started on the Wallumbilla Placemaking Strategy in 2011, the concept of a beautified Wallumbilla Calico Cottage & Heritage Precinct and Multipurpose Building was identified as a community priority.

The Multipurpose Building will incorporate a number of Council services as well as allow Council to better support the Wallumbilla Calico Cottage. The building will incorporate a Council Customer Service Office, Visitor Information Centre, Calico Cottage, Library, Multi-Purpose Room, additional carparking and landscaping.

Mayor Golder said this is a great example of Council working closely with both the local community and a local builder to help make this project happen.

This is an investment in the town that is intended to create a space that the Wallumbilla community is proud of, and one that local residents and visitors can enjoy, Cr Golder said.

Council staff will now turn their focus to finalising the design and contract award, with construction scheduled to commence on site in the coming months.

Council would like to thank community and the funding partners for their valuable input contributions over the last few years as the project has continued to progress from initial concept to pre-construction.  We look forward to sharing project updates to the community as the project enters the construction phase.

This project has been fully funded and made possible by contributions from Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.
