African drumming workshops, movie viewings, arts and crafts and photography and clay workshops are some of the many activities that make up this year’s September School Holiday Program!

With an immense amount of fun set to take place across the Maranoa, the September School Holiday Program will commence on Monday, 21 September and conclude on Friday, 2 October.

Portfolio for Youth, Councillor John Birkett said that the September School Holiday Program has something for children of all ages to be involved in.

“The program is jampacked with many exciting activities on offer located in towns across the region,” Cr Birkett said.

"In addition to this, with the warmer weather on its way, Council is excited to announce that the local pool in Surat, Wallumbilla and Mitchell will be open from Saturday 19 September, with the Injune Pool opening Monday 21 September."

“The September School Holiday Program is available now and I encourage families to have a look at it and participate in these fun activities.”

Program highlights:

  • African Drumming Workshop: Get your hands on a drum and feel the rhythm! Immerse yourself in an authentic introduction to West African music, guided with cultural respect, experience and plenty of rhythm. Come along, have a go and make some noise! All ages welcome, children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Fish & Chips and Movie Night at Lions Park: Join us for the grand reopening of Lions Park for an afternoon of family fun! Enjoy some classic fish and chips, grab an ice cream from Bessie’s Ice Cream Van, get your face painted, then kick back on a bean bag and enjoy the Minions & Monsters movie under the stars.
  • Photography workshop: Ever dreamed of seeing your photo hanging in a real art gallery? Now’s your chance! Join our fun photography workshop, learn some new tricks and submit your favourite shot for the chance to have your work exhibited in the Walk of Art and Surat art galleries as part of Youth Week 2027. And the best part? You don’t need a fancy camera — just your mobile phone! Ages 9 and up, children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Clay workshop: Make a small dish with air-dry clay, scavenge for leaves and flowers to make impressions within the clay. A lovely way to add some nature to your artwork. Ages 5 and up, children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Some of the activities require bookings. For full program details and schedules, times and booking information, please refer to the holiday program by visiting the School Holidays webpage.
