At its Ordinary Meeting of 10 July, Maranoa Regional Council formally endorsed the reestablishment of a Councillor Portfolio system.
The move marked a return of portfolios to Council, with the meeting approving the allocations of portfolios for the 2024-2028 Council term.
Mayor Wendy Taylor said portfolios strengthened Council’s focus by harnessing the skills of every one of the elected Councillors.
“At the last election, Maranoa residents voted for a change. We have a number of new faces around the Council table and each elected representative brings their own unique set of skills and experience,” Cr Taylor said.
“Much consideration has gone into how best to utilise these skills for the advantage of our community”.
"Portfolios are not about replacing or removing a Councillor’s duty to serve their community. They empower Councillors to take the lead and focus council on the many strategic areas that make up Maranoa Regional Council.
“The recent budget process showed how well this team can work together to find the best outcomes for the region.
“I am committed to leading a focused driven council and this portfolio structure will help to achieve this goal,” she said.
