Council Ordinary Meeting Snapshot: 15 October 2026

Published on 19 October 2026

We’re kicking off October with some exciting updates from the latest Council meeting!

Here are just a few key outcomes:

Employee Volunteering Policy

Council has adopted an Employee Volunteering Policy to help strengthen our local communities by supporting staff to give back through volunteering. As one of the largest employers in the region, we have an opportunity to make a real difference by supporting the sporting clubs, charities and community organisations that rely on volunteers. This policy gives eligible employees the opportunity to volunteer during the working week, while ensuring Council’s operational needs continue to be met. It’s about putting our community-minded values into action and helping build a stronger, more connected Maranoa.

Housing Activation Reserve - Statement of Intention

Council gave in-principle support to the development of a Housing Activation Reserve. This reserve introduces a real practical step in planning ahead for Maranoa’s future. What this means is we are looking at a way to reinvest proceeds from suitable property sales or development back into housing opportunities across the Maranoa which enables infrastructure and partnerships. It is a long-term approach that can help support housing supply, improve liveability, and make our region more attractive for workers, families and future investment.

Application through Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Program 2026/2027

Council is pleased to support three fantastic local projects through the Regional Arts Development Fund. Funding will go to Maranoa Artists for a fabric painting workshop, Creative Injune for landscape art workshops that will also provide artwork for Injune Hospital, and Meeleebee Create and Retreat through Zonta Roma for a three-day creative workshop experience where participants can learn upholstery and home décor skills. These projects are all about building creative skills, bringing people together, and celebrating the artistic flair we have right here across the Maranoa.

Refurbishment of Members Bar Bassett Park - Roma Turf Club

Council has approved the Roma Turf Club’s proposed refurbishment of the Members Bar at Bassett Park. This upgrade is being undertaken as a Club-funded investment in the facility, with Council assisting to ensure the proposed works are appropriately reviewed, that the final scope and design requirements are agreed, and that all necessary building, safety and asset approvals are in place before works begin. This is a positive investment in a Council-owned facility that will improve the space for members, visitors and the broader community.

Establishment of Fees for Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre

With only 7 weeks to go until the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre opens, there is a real sense of excitement building in the community. Council has now adopted the entry fees for the new facility, with options to suit different households and budgets. We are providing greater choice and flexibility for our residents recognising that not everyone will use the facility in the same way by introducing different levels of fees including casual visits, concession pricing, family passes and annual memberships. Adult entry will be $5, child and concession entry $3, and a family casual pass of $14.50. We know affordability matters, so the pricing has been set to balance access for the community with the long-term sustainability of the centre in mind. Full fees and charges will be available on Council’s website. The countdown is on we can't wait to open this amazing community facility.
