We’re finishing off September with some exciting updates from the latest Council meeting!

Here are just a few key outcomes:

13.1 Finalisation of the Environmental Protection Order and Compliance Notice - EPPR00407513

Council pleased to share that Council has completed the Environmental Protection Order and Compliance Notice issued to Council in January 2024. What this means, is that the work completed by council has satisfied the EPO and confirms the Department has lifted this order. Uncovering this serious matter in the early days of the 2024 -2028 term of council and taking swift action via this terms first budget means our community has not been hit with a $4,837,500 fine. 

Thank you to the staff who have implemented a massive change both in infrastructure and operationally.  I would also like to thank our residents especially those in our regional communities, for their patience, their willingness to adapt and for their feedback throughout the process.

This is an important step, and council will continue to work through the remaining unresolved issues and implementation of compliant and sustainable waste management operations into the future.

13.3 Application through Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Program 2026/2027

Council has approved $2,000 through the Regional Arts Development Fund to support a Creative Lampshade Making workshop. The funding will go to Booringa Action Group as the supporting organisation, on behalf of Mitchell on Maranoa – Friends of the Gallery. It is great to see the Mitchell Community being able to access this bespoke craft workshop.

LC.1 Works for Queensland (W4Q) Housing Project Update | Consideration for Contract Award - Miscamble / Crawford Street Housing Development

In response to the current housing crisis, Council has taken another step towards increasing the housing supply in the Maranoa. Through the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland Program, Council allocated approximately $2 million towards the construction of three new residential dwellings at 2 Crawford Street, Roma.

This project is part of Council’s work to increase housing supply, which helps support workforce attraction and retention and the broader growth of our region.
