A Roaring Night of Celebration

It was a night filled with community spirit and celebration as a large crowd of Maranoa residents came together to celebrate the official grand reopening of Lions Park, Roma last Friday night, 25 September.
The aroma of the Lion’s club monthly donuts and fish and chips being cooked up commenced the celebrations before people gathered for speeches and the official plaque unveiling, marking to start of the park’s next chapter.
The night continued with people enjoying drinks from Ralphie’s coffee van, dessert from Bessie’s ice-cream van and free face painting by Susie Klien and her team, before settling down on beanbags, picnic rugs and camp chairs to watch the 2026 release of Minions and Monsters under the stars.
Mayor for Maranoa Regional Council, Wendy Taylor said it was a great time to celebrate the completion of a $577,918 project for a new toilet block, and major upgrades to softfall, turf and irrigation.
“For many locals, Lions Park is more than just a park. It is a gathering place — somewhere families, friends and community groups can come together, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with one another,” Mayor Taylor said.
“It is wonderful to see Lions Park refreshed, renewed and ready to be enjoyed again by the community,
“Council has no doubt that this park will continue to serve the community for many decades to come.”
Lions Club of Roma President Chrissy Bereyne said the club is thankful for Council and the communities support to get the park looking as wonderful as it is today.
“We are extremely excited to have reached this milestone,” Chrissy said.
