You’re invited: Official Grand Reopening of Lion’s Park, Roma

Maranoa, mark your calendars! Lions Park, Roma is ready to welcome the community back following a major refurbishment, and Council is celebrating with a fantastic evening of family fun in conjunction with Council’s School Holiday Program and the Lions Club’s monthly Fish and Chips night.

Happening on Friday, 25 September from 4:00pm, it will be an unforgettable night with the grand plaque unveiling, a free outdoor movie screening of the 2026 release of Minions and Monsters (with beanbags onsite), free face painting, the iconic fish and chips, donuts and ice cream.

This night highlights the completion of $577,918 project for a new toilet block, and major upgrades to softfall, turf and irrigation.

Portfolio for Parks and Gardens Councillor Meryl Brumpton encourages residents, especially young families to come along.

“Enjoy a night out under the outback stars celebrating a major community project through witnessing the plaque unveiling and enjoying some great food and a movie,” Cr Brumpton said.

“With sections of the park being closed off from the start of February this year, it is exciting to officially reopen the park with new improvements that will add to the longevity and usability of this space.

“Whether it is kicking a footy around, having fun on the playground, going out for a picnic, hosting birthday parties or enjoying the monthly Lions Fish and Chips, it’s a cherished and vital space for our community.

“Council understands the great importance of sowing continuous investment into community spaces like this has to continuing the overall improvement to liveability and community wellbeing.”

Lions Club of Roma President Chrissy Bereyne said the club is thankful for Council and the communities support to get the park looking as wonderful as it is today.

“We are extremely excited to have reached this milestone,” Chrissy said.

“These upgrades will encourage more of the public to come and use the facilities. The Park has always been popular but with the upgrades I am sure we will see more picnics, birthday celebrations, fun and games in the park.

“The Roma Lions Club works tirelessly for the Roma Community. As the Lions Motto says, "We Serve". Some of the organisations we work with are LifeFlight, the Roma branch of the Qld Cancer Council, the Anglican Church, our Schools, the Roma and District Eisteddfod Committee, the South West Barrel Horse Club, as well as giving to community members who have suffered a hardship. Of course, we also support District and International charities as well.

The upgrade works included the installation of a new toilet block, drainage across the park, a new and improved irrigation system, comprehensive soil preparation, and new topsoil and full turfing of the park.

“We encourage all Maranoa residents, especially families to come out for a great night and celebrate this incredible milestone with us,” Cr Brumpton said.

Mark your calendars, bring your friends and family with a camp chair or picnic blanket in hand for an unmissable night under the outback stars.
