The Injune VIC Playground is set for a major renewal, with construction of the new playground scheduled to commence on Monday 12 October 2026.

Earlier this year, Maranoa Regional Council invited the Injune community to have their say on the future of the playground, including their preferred playground equipment, colours and softfall treatment.

The consultation, completed in June, received 41 responses through Council’s Have Your Say survey, with approximately 90 per cent of respondents supporting Playground Concept Option 1. The survey also showed strong support for rubber softfall, which was preferred by almost 70 per cent of respondents.

Portfolio Chair for Parks and Gardens, Councillor Meryl Brumpton thanked residents for taking the time to provide feedback and help shape the final design.

“The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to share their views,” Cr Brumpton said.

“Families told us what they valued in a new playground, and the preferred design provides a great mix of play opportunities for younger children.”

Residents also suggested additional seating, picnic facilities and other play elements through the consultation. Council has been able to incorporate additional seating opportunities within the play space as part of the final design.

The renewal will replace the existing playground with new equipment focused primarily on preschool and younger children, together with new compliant rubber softfall.

Mayor Wendy Taylor said the start of construction marked an exciting next step for the project.

“The VIC playground is an important space for Injune families and visitors, and it is great to now be moving from community consultation and planning into construction,” Mayor Taylor said.

“We look forward to seeing the new playground open and local children enjoying a space that the Injune community has helped shape.”

Installation of the new playground will commence on 12 October 2026 and is expected to take up to 3 weeks, weather permitting.

The playground will be closed during construction, and Council asks community members to please avoid the work area while renewal works are underway.
