The children of the Maranoa were kept occupied during their recent spring break with the Maranoa Regional Council’s exciting September School Holidays activity program.
From Monday, 22 September to Friday, 3 October, a program open to all ages was run to keep the youngest of the Maranoa residents enriched and entertained during their holiday period, with events taking place around the Council’s regional centres.
Spokesperson for Youth, Councillor John Birkett highlighted the success of the school holiday program and the variety of activities that took place over the almost two-week period.
“This September school holiday program provided a range of activities for the whole family this break – keeping our regions children entertained with plenty of fun all mixed with a splash of learning and education.
“Through working with other organisations or by providing activities through our Council locations and services, the school holiday program kept our kids engaged, entertained and, most importantly, cool as we head into the warmer months.”
The Queensland Ballet Regional Tour danced its way through Roma, Mitchell, Wallumbilla, Surat and Injune from 22 September to 26 September. Offered during the tour were free community classes for different age groups, bringing beginner pointers for the budding ballerinas.
Level Up: Game On was held in Roma on Thursday, 25 September. This free, one-day sporting careers expo brought the action, energy, and inspiration of sport to life through hands-on activities, elite athlete-led training sessions, and behind-the-scenes career insights. It gave the community a chance to create lasting memories, meeting Olympians and Paralympians, training with some of the best, and taking part in educational sessions. Level Up: Game On provided an opportunity for sports lovers to combine full family fun with the potential to kickstart a future career in the sporting industry.
Friday, 8 October saw Council run a free bus from Roma to Yuleba for a family day out at the brand-new Yuleba Water Play Park. Having opened Sunday, 14 September, the busload marked themselves as the latest going for a splash at this exciting new community area. To cap off the day, a free BBQ provided lunch for those who made the journey.
The local Libraries across the regional centres around the Maranoa also played host to a plethora of school holiday fun, with activities varying from crafts and puzzles, to cooking classes and RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing parties. With the pools across the regional centres opening their gates as we head into Summer, there truly was something for everyone these school holidays.
With the end of school year now fast approaching, stay tuned for updates regarding the Council’s 2025/26 Summer School Holiday program.
