Maranoa Regional Councillors have joined representatives from across Queensland at the 129th Annual Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Conference, held from 20–22 October on the Gold Coast.

The conference brought together mayors, councillors and senior leaders to discuss practical solutions to the issues facing local communities — including roads, innovation, disaster management, renewable resources, financial sustainability, revenue diversification and community engagement.

Attendance at the conference supports councillors’ ongoing professional development and strengthens Council’s ability to respond to the challenges and opportunities facing the Maranoa. It also provides a forum to collaborate directly with other regional councils and government representatives on shared priorities. Many councils across Queensland were represented by their mayors and councillors, recognising the importance of a united approach to tackling statewide and regional issues.

Mayor Wendy Taylor said the event was an important opportunity to represent the Maranoa and ensure local perspectives are heard in statewide discussions.

“The LGAQ Conference is a valuable forum to advocate for our region and to learn from others who are tackling similar challenges. It’s about bringing back ideas, partnerships and approaches that can help us deliver better outcomes for our community.”

The conference concluded with the LGAQ General Meeting, where councils debated motions on behalf of their regions to help set the policy direction for Queensland’s local government sector.

Participation in the conference helps ensure the Maranoa remains well-represented, informed and proactive in addressing the priorities of our communities.
