Youth Week is upon us – get ready for many days of fun!
Published on 01 April 2026
Youth residents across the Maranoa have an exciting month ahead, with events starting in early April to celebrate Youth Week, which officially kicks off on Wednesday, 11 April, and runs until Sunday, 19 April.
As an annual celebration of the positive contribution that young people make to Queensland communities, Youth Week offers a range of free and low cost opportunities for Maranoa’s youth members to connect, learn new skills and get involved in their community.
Following the enjoyment of the program’s warm up event, the Mitchell TRYathlon, the remainder of the program will feature a variety of events, with a surplus of fun guaranteed.
Among the many exciting activities, some of the highlights are:
- Wednesday, 1 April – CUC Level Up Your Future Expo (PCYC, 9:00am–3:00pm): Hands-on career discovery event where students can explore different industries including podcasting, law trial experiences, agriculture, crime scene investigation, creative arts and town planning. Please note, this event is open to schools and organisations.
- Thursday, 2 April to Monday, 6 April – Easter in the Country: One of the region’s largest community events featuring the rodeo, street parade, street markets, BBQ competition and live entertainment, providing activities for young people and families across the weekend.
- Tuesday, 14 April & Thursday, 15 April – Roma & District Tennis Association Coaching Clinic: Two-day tennis coaching clinic for children aged 5–16 years, supporting youth participation in sport and skill development.
- Thursday, 15 April to Saturday, 17 April – Songline Skateboarding Workshops: Young people will have the opportunity to decorate their own skateboard and learn to ride in a fun, inclusive workshop delivered across multiple communities.
- Saturday, 17 April – Youth Movie at the Big Rig Big Screen: Youth and families are invited to relax and enjoy a free PG-rated movie, with popcorn provided.
Portfolio Chair for Youth Councillor John Birkett looks forward to seeing the young people of the Maranoa engaged in the Youth Week program.
“There is plenty on for young people to enjoy this Youth Week, from events to assist with your future, to opportunities to learn new skills or relax with your friends.
