Gunnar, Figaro, Kali, Pipi and Xolani – these names reflect the stories of five incredibly loveable animals who recently found their forever homes, thanks to Council’s Community Safety Team and adoption program.

The two cats and three dogs had been impounded by Council after they were found wandering the streets of two Maranoa towns.

Having not been claimed by owners, the animals were listed for adoption and were fated to find their new families, resulting in them being adopted within days.

Portfolio Chair for Community Safety, Councillor Amber Davis said that she is thrilled with the outcomes for these animals.

“I am very pleased that these animals have received a second chance and that they are now living in their furever homes,” Cr Davis said.

“Council takes great delight in seeing animals be adopted.  The Community Safety Team are exhaustive in their efforts to ensure that displaced or adoptive animals find their way home.

“Through these adoptions, we hope to not only see these animals living the life they should, but importantly, they are off Maranoa streets - helping ensure the safety of our people and their pets.

“Thank you to the Community Safety Team, not only for their involvement in the success of these adoptions, but also for their commitment and work towards keeping our community safe.”

So far during the 2026 calendar year, Council has homed eight cats and three dogs through their adoption program.

If the animals listed for adoption are not adopted through Council’s adoption program, Council sources rescue organisations who may be willing to rehome the animals.

During the abovementioned timeframes, Council has rehomed one cat and seven dogs to rescue organisations.
