Roma-Bungil Cultural Community Centre reopens following major upgrades

The Roma-Bungil Cultural Community Centre has reopened following the completion of major upgrades, with the first event successfully held at the venue over the weekend.
The project included replacing the building's ageing evaporative cooling system with a modern reverse-cycle air-conditioning system, delivering a more comfortable and reliable environment for patrons throughout the year.
The upgrade also included additional air-conditioning in key areas such as the stage, backstage facilities and the sound and lighting control room, improving comfort for performers, volunteers and technical operators during events.
The works build on improvements completed earlier this year to provide safer and easier access to the sound and lighting control room.
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Chair for Facilities Councillor Cameron O'Neil said the upgrades would help ensure the facility continued to serve the community for many years to come.
"The Roma-Bungil Cultural Community Centre has become a much-loved part of community life in the Maranoa and has hosted countless events, performances, celebrations and community gatherings over the years," Deputy Mayor O'Neil said.
"The previous cooling system had reached the end of its useful life and was becoming increasingly unreliable, particularly during periods of extreme heat and humidity.
"One of the clearest signs that the system was no longer meeting community expectations was the need to relocate our annual Christmas Luncheon to another venue because we could not guarantee a comfortable environment for attendees.
"These upgrades are about ensuring people can continue to enjoy this fantastic facility in comfort, whether they're attending an event, volunteering behind the scenes or performing on stage.
"We're pleased to see the Centre back in operation and look forward to seeing it continue to bring people together for many years to come."
Councillor Amber Davis, Portfolio Chair for Local Business and Procurement, said it was pleasing to see local businesses involved in delivering the upgrades.
"It's fantastic to see both projects delivered by local contractors," Cr Davis said.
"We have highly skilled and capable businesses right here in the Maranoa, and it's great to see local contractors working on facilities that are so important to our community.
"When Council engages local businesses, it helps support local jobs, keeps money circulating within our region and creates opportunities for local workers and their families.
"These upgrades are a great example of how investing locally can deliver lasting benefits for both our community and our local economy."
Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these important upgrades were undertaken.
