Hazard Reduction Burns: Mitchell

Residents of Mitchell are advised that Queensland Fire Department will be undertaking planned hazard reduction burns over the coming weeks, starting from today, Wednesday 19 August 2026.

The fire mitigation measure will allow an excess fuel load to be burnt off around the town common areas of Mitchell.

It is recommended that windows and doors are kept closed during these burns and those who may suffer from a respiratory condition keep their medication close by.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads with motorists urged to drive with caution and to conditions.

Maranoa Regional Council will continue to monitor the sites post burn with residual smoke expected in the days after.
