Queensland Fire Department will be undertaking a planned hazard reduction burn this Saturday, 6 June 2026 in Mitchell.

The fire mitigation measure will allow an excess fuel load to be burnt off west of the Mitchell township, from Fisherman’s Rest to the Mitchell Racecourse.

It is recommended that windows and doors are kept closed during this time and those who may suffer from a respiratory condition should keep their medication close by.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads with motorists urged to drive with caution and to conditions.

Council appreciates residents’ cooperation during this time while works to better our region take place.
