Visit the Maranoa - Where the locals still give you a wave
Published on 03 June 2026
The Maranoa Regional Council is putting out a call to travellers this June and July – come out to our region just down the road where the locals still give you a wave!
Council is pleased to be working with local businesses, tourism operators and the friendly faces around the community to encourage travellers and tourists to make their stop the Maranoa as they embark on their next adventure.
Following a slower than usual start to the tourist season accounting for the ongoing fuel crisis, the Maranoa is here to say we are just down the road! With plenty of fuel supply and endless opportunities, the Maranoa encourages intrastate and interstate travellers to pay a visit to towns across the region to visit the attractions, take in the outback vistas and enjoy the genuine friendliness and hospitality that our communities have to offer.
Councillor Jane Vincent, Portfolio for Tourism, invites travellers to make the Maranoa their destination.
“We understand that travellers may have been discouraged to travel based on fuel prices or limitations. The is an excellent tool for travellers to check fuel availabilities around Southwest Queensland, for peace of mind while they travel.
“The Maranoa Regional Council is working with our operators in the region, with many offering special deals to visitors, which are available on the Australian Tourism Database Warehouse (ATDW) and promoted through our channels, OutbackQueensland.com, and Queensland.com.
“Fortunately, you don’t need to spend a lot to enjoy the Outback. From our region’s amazing national parks, like the renowned Carnarvon National Park, to our various tourist trails and popular fishing spots, we’re an affordable holiday choice with low and no-cost options.
“For travellers, particularly our friends in the Southeast and Northern NSW, the Maranoa is really just down the road, where country meets Outback. In our communities, every visit counts for our local businesses, with tourism the heartbeat for many operators.
‘You won’t be short a friendly smile, a wave or a piece of local knowledge when you make a stop in the communities in the Roma region. So, make a trip of it and see what our region has to offer.”
