The Maranoa is set to welcome Olympic royalty this March, with eight-time Olympic medallist Cate Campbell visiting the region to attend the Mitchell TRYathalon and deliver exclusive swimming clinics for young athletes from across the Maranoa.

As part of her regional visit, Cate will host a series of skill development clinics in Wallumbilla and Mitchell, giving children and young people from right across the region the rare opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s most celebrated swimmers.

Hosted across Saturday 21 March and Sunday 22 March, the half-day clinics will focus on building essential skills both in and out of the water, focusing on:

  • Dryland strength and mobility

Portfolio Chair for Youth Councillor John Birkett calls for our young swimmers around the Maranoa to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

“Don’t miss this chance to learn from one of the best in the world and take your swimming skills to the next level,” said Cr Birkett.

“It’s not every day that we have this calibre of athlete providing training to the young sportspeople in our region.  I highly encourage the swim athletes to register and take advantage of the skills and experience that this legend can provide.”

In addition to the swim clinics, Cate will also be attending the Mitchell TRYathalon, taking place Monday, 23 March.

Portfolio Chair for Sport and Recreation Councillor Peter Flynn looks forward to having Cate in the Maranoa as part of her regional tour.

“It is an honour to have an Australian Olympic champion coaching our regions children the fundamentals of elite swimming.

“To also have her continue her visit by attending one of our annual sporting events is extra special and we look forward to showcasing Mitchell’s and the wider Maranoa’s talents across all age groups.”
