Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor has welcomed comments from Queensland Premier David Crisafulli highlighting the potential of the Taroom Trough, noting the opportunity it may present for local communities.
Mayor Taylor said areas of the Maranoa, including Surat, are no stranger to energy development and understand both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with it.
“Our communities have a long history of working alongside the energy sector, and we’ve seen firsthand how important it is to get the balance right,” Mayor Taylor said. “The Premier’s focus on the Taroom Trough recognises the important role regions like ours continue to play in Queensland’s energy future.”
“The Taroom Trough represents an opportunity to build on that experience — supporting local jobs where possible and contributing to economic activity across the Maranoa.”
Mayor Taylor said projects of this nature can provide flow-on benefits to local contractors, accommodation providers and service industries, particularly when there is a strong focus on local participation. Mayor Taylor also acknowledged the importance of strong collaboration between government, industry and local communities.
“We welcome the Premier’s leadership and the State Government’s support for a project in our region, and we look forward to working together to ensure local communities are well-positioned to benefit.”
“Maranoa Regional Council will continue to advocate for outcomes that deliver lasting value for our region, while maintaining the high standards our communities expect.
