Maranoa Strengthens State Partnerships During Government Deputations

Council’s Mayor Wendy Taylor and Deputy Mayor Cr Cameron O’Neil were in Brisbane yesterday meeting with Queensland Government Ministers to ensure Maranoa’s priorities are clearly positioned to support strong State–local government partnerships.
The deputations provided an opportunity to advocate for upcoming initiatives while also updating the Government on major projects already underway, including the upgrade of the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre and delivery of the Police Paddock Residential Subdivision.
Mayor Wendy Taylor said early engagement was critical to securing practical outcomes for our region.
“It’s important that Maranoa’s priorities are in front of Government early so we can position ourselves to partner on the opportunities ahead,” Mayor Taylor said.
“We appreciate the State’s support for projects already underway and are focused on progressing the next stage of investment for our region.”
Discussions throughout the day included regional air services, housing, economic and manufacturing opportunities, Olympic legacy infrastructure, tourism initiatives and funding pathways to deliver priority community projects.
Deputy Mayor Cr Cameron O’Neil said the meetings focused on clear next steps rather than broad discussion.
“These discussions were about real issues that affect our community — affordable airfares, housing availability and progressing projects like Hobson Place in Mitchell,” Cr O’Neil said.
“We’ve put our priorities clearly on the table and will now work with Ministers and departments to move them forward.”
