Maranoa officially welcomes 27 new Aussies

Over the past 6 months, Maranoa Regional Council welcomed 27 residents as they officially became Australian Citizens.

Both citizenship ceremonies, held on 29 July and 15 April respectively, were buzzing with excitement, unity and celebration.

Friends, families and colleagues gathered in support to celebrate this special night with them as they recited their vows, sang the Australian National Anthem and enjoyed some refreshments with their fellow citizenship recipients.

Mayor Wendy Taylor said Australian citizenship is a common bond, involving reciprocal rights and obligations, uniting all Australians, while respecting their diversity.

“Each of our citizens are about to undertake a new journey in life,” Mayor Taylor said.

“As an Australian citizen, you will enjoy the benefits of a free and democratic society including, equality before the law, freedom of the individual, equality between men and women, and equality of opportunity for all.

“In return, citizenship brings responsibilities and duties to our country.”

“Welcome to the Maranoa, we are grateful to have you in our part of Australia we are proud to call home!”
