Council brings a cool relief for Maranoa’s seniors

Last month, Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor and Deputy Mayor Cameron O’Neil personally delivered good news to Roma’s U3A.
Coming through on Council’s budget promises, $150,000 will go towards a major reverse-cycle aircon installation for the main hall area in the Roma Senior Citizens building.
Mayor Taylor said this project will prove as a welcoming relief in both the summer and winter months.
“Council is thrilled to be able to bring this much needed upgrade for U3A members along with other organisations that use this facility to ensure for more comfortable and enjoyable times year-round,” Mayor Taylor said.
“We recognise the great use organisations such as the Roma U3A get out of this facility and are determined as a Council to not only look after these facilities but the people who use them.
“Installing this aircon upgrade is a way Council can not only make it a more enjoyable space but also give back to the U3A for their continuous support and thank them for the beautiful impact they have in the Maranoa, especially for our older residents.”
During the Mayor and Deputy Mayors visit to the U3A at their Term 3 Orientation Morning, they gave the attendees a run down of the budget, the thinking behind the decisions made and answered questions the attendees had.
Deputy Mayor Cameron O’Neil said this is a key item in the 2026/27 budget.
“We committed to the community that council would continue to improve our regions community facilities where and when we could. This investment into the Roma Senior Citizens buildings is a further example of council delivering on our commitment and completing these important projects.
“In a Council where our primary focus is continuing to build our region into the best place for our residents to live, work and play, this air conditioning upgrade is one of many projects that will do just that.
“There are a large number of exciting projects in this year’s budget that will positively impact everyone’s day-to-day lives and I know this aircon upgrade is one of those projects.”
This project is just one of many things Council will be investing in, with more than $57 million budgeted for improvements in infrastructure, community facilities, housing, roads, water, and resilience projects across the region while delivering a return to an operating surplus.
