Take your marks, get set, GO at the 2026 Mitchell TRYathlon

Come join special guest Olympian Cate Campbell OAM as the 2026 Mitchell TRYathlon sprints off on Monday, 23 March 2026. 

This free event serves as a Youth Week warm-up, taking place from 11 – 19 April.

The event is open to individuals and teams across multiple categories, making it a fun one for the whole family – potentially even inviting some friendly competition. 

The event categories include:

  • 6 and Under (Male, Female or Team): Swim (can use an assistance / pool noodle): 25m, Cycle: 1.2km, Run: 200m
  • 8 and Under (Male, Female or Team): Swim (can use an assistance / pool noodle): 25m, Cycle: 1.2km, Run: 400m
  • 10 and Under (Male, Female or Team): Swim: 50m, Cycle: 2.4km, Run: 800m
  • 12 and Under (Male, Female or Team): Swim: 100m, Cycle: 4km, Run: 1km
  • 15 and Under (Male, Female or Team): Swim: 200m, Cycle: 5.5km, Run: 1.2km
  • Desperate Housewives / Husbands: Swim: 150m, Cycle: 4km, Run: 1.2km
  • Open: Swim: 300m, Cycle: 7.5km, Run: 2.4km

All participants will be able to refuel with a free sausage sizzle from the Mitchell Blue Light. 

Portfolio Chair for Sport and Recreation, Councillor Peter Flynn invites people across the Maranoa to come and give the TRY a try. 

“Whether you are a swimming, cycling or running enthusiast or are simply wanting to join in the fun, Maranoa Regional Council encourages everyone to come and compete and support your community at this event,” Cr Flynn said. 

“It is an honour for the Maranoa to play host to Olympian Cate Campbell OAM, a swimming legend that has and will continue to inspire many. The opportunity to have her involved in this event in our regional community is a very special one.

“This a great showcase of how to get involved in raising awareness and taking action around health and wellbeing.”

Portfolio Chair for Youth, Councillor John Birkett encourages kids and teenagers to get pumped for the wide range of upcoming activities taking place from 11 – 19 April.

“Youth Week is all about celebrating the positive contributions our young people make across Queensland,” Cr Birkett said.

“Council is proud to take part in this annual celebration, providing plenty of opportunities for kids across the region to get involved, catch-up with each other and have fun.”
