Council would like to announce that they will be conducting a Selective Inspection Program from 1 September to 30 November 2026 between the hours of 7:30am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, or at such a time depending on the circumstances of the householder.

Inspections may occur in the following towns throughout the region Amby, Injune, Jackson, Mitchell, Muckadilla, Mungallala, Roma, Surat, Wallumbilla and Yuleba.

Authorised persons may visit, and if necessary, enter yards where they have reasonable belief that an unregistered or regulated dog may be present.

Portfolio for Community Safety, Councillor Amber Davis said that the program enhances the safety of the Maranoa community, complies with State Government legislation and helps Council maintain an accurate register of dogs within the region.

“The Selective Inspection Program contributes towards Council’s efforts of ensuring that the Maranoa is pet friendly place for everyone, for those who own pets and for those who do not,” Cr Davis said.

“It encourages responsible pet ownership within the Maranoa; animals must be registered and microchipped in accordance with State Government legislation.

“Along with complying with legislation, having your animal registered and microchipped can help you if it becomes lost because the information can be used to reunite you with your furry friend.”

Prior to inspections commencing, Council has provided information to residents about responsible animal ownership to reduce the number of fines issued this year. This includes:

  • the issue of renewal notices in the first week of June
  • payment reminders via SMS to those animal owners who have supplied a mobile number
  • media releases
  • Facebook posts.

Council records indicate that as of Tuesday, 4 August 2026 there are 512 animals with outstanding renewals.

To avoid a fine, and be a responsible pet owner, please register your animal via BPAY, online, phone or visit Council’s Customer Service Centres.

The Selective Inspection Program was approved by Council at its Ordinary Meeting held on 29 July 2026.
