It’s magpie breeding season from July to November, which means Maranoa residents are advised that some birds may swoop to protect their nests.

Tips to stay safe:

  • Wear a hat, sunglasses or carry an umbrella.
  • Walk in groups and keep an eye on the bird.
  • Take another route if you know magpies are nesting nearby.
  • Don’t throw things or yell at magpies – it makes them more aggressive.
  • Never approach young magpies on the ground.

Remember: Magpies are a protected native species.  Please don’t harm them – with a few precautions we can safely share our parks, streets and towns during breeding season.
