Australia Day 2022

Come and celebrate Australia Day 2022

Celebrate Australia Day on Wednesday, 26 January with Australia Day Awards and plenty of activities happening around the Maranoa to keep everyone entertained!

Australia Day is a time for all Australians to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate.

Events will be held across the region in Mitchell, Surat, Wallumbilla/Yuleba/Jackson, Roma and Injune.

We’re pleased to announce that five Australia Day Ambassadors will be joining events across our region to reflect, respect and celebrate this Australia Day. These guests are:

  • Gail Ker OAM, Chief Executive Officer, Access Community Services Ltd
  • Jordyn Francis, Child Protection and Human Trafficking Project Officer, Australian Federal Police
  • Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM, Co-founder, Doctors with Disabilities Australia
  • Dr Robert McGregor, Consultant Paediatrician
  • William Nancarrow, Simulation Assistant, Queensland Health

Mayor Tyson Golder said Australia Day is all about reflecting and doing something Australian like getting together with family or friends in our community, it’s what Australia Day is all about.

“There is a lot planned across the Maranoa and it is a great time to reflect and celebrate as a community and recognise the individuals who go above and beyond for the communities in the Maranoa” Cr Golder said.

Residents are asked while attending these events to please observe COVID Safe practices, including social distancing and following good hygiene practices.  Please do not attend if you are sick.
