The Preamble to the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) provides that government held information should be released administratively as a matter of course.

Maranoa Regional Council is committed to providing the public with open and transparent access to information about its services and activities. Council’s Right to Information publication scheme has been developed to allow easy user friendly public access.

The seven classes of information published are: -

  1. About Us (Who we are and what we do)
    Council information, location and contacts, constitutional and legal governance.
  2. Our services (The services we offer)
    A description of the services offered by Council, including advice and guidance, booklets and leaflets, transactions and media releases.
  3. Our finances (What we spend and how we spend it)
    Financial information relating to projected and actual income and expenditure, tendering, procurement and contracts.
  4. Our priorities (What our priorities are and how we are doing)
    Strategy and performance information, plans assessments, inspections and reviews.
  5. Our decisions (How we make decisions)
    Policy proposals and decisions. Decision making processes, internal critieria and procedures, consultations.
  6. Our policies (Our policies and procedures)
    Current written protocols for delivering our functions and responsibilities.
  7. Our lists (Lists and registers)
    Information held in registers required by law and other lists and registers relating to the functions of the Council.

If you have not been able to locate the particular information/service you are after via our website, or by contacting the relevant department within Council, you may wish to contact Council's Governance Department to discuss your particular enquiry. In many cases, they will be able to direct you to the appropriate channel.

If you are still unable to access the information you are seeking, you may wish to make a formal application under the Right to Information Act 2009.

Disclosure Logs

A disclosure log makes information disclosed to an applicant under the RTI Act available to a wider public audience. Section 78(3) of the RTI Act provides that a person may access a document in a disclosure log for no charge.

Making a Right to Information Application

If you have been unable to access information you believe to be held by Council, you may make an application under the RTI Act.

Council’s Governance Department is able to provide advice on applications and charges if applicable. Please note that if the information you are seeking to access is not your personal information, you will have to pay an application fee. You may also be charged for processing the application and for making copies of documents.

The RTI Act contains exemptions to access of information that may not be in the public interest to disclose because it would be prejudicial to essential public interests or the personal or business affairs of individuals or agencies.
