Extreme fire danger forecast for Maranoa tomorrow – 6 September 2019

Warm, very windy conditions with low relative humidity are expected to develop in the region on Friday. Widespread raised dust could also occur. If a fire is to start in these conditions, it can spread out of control easily and become very difficult to contain.

Council would like to advise residents that Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has placed a Local Fire Ban for the Maranoa and Balonne Shire. A prohibition on lighting fires in the open will be in place until 2359 hrs on Friday, 6 September 2019. All Permits to Light Fire previously issued in the Maranoa area are hereby cancelled. Please check any previous fires and extinguish any hotspots, the windy conditions could possibility reignite the former fire.

If you see a fire and have concerns, please report it immediately to Triple Zero (000). The sooner QFES can attend the scene, the better.
