The current fenced waste area will be closed, allowing the safe movement of plant and equipment, for Council to cap the old waste. Upon completion, this site will be used as a lay-down and sorting place, prior to waste going into the new landfill, meeting the requirements under the new State Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy.
Councillor Geoff McMullen, Portfolio Chair for Environment and Waste said residents will not be able to access the refuse site until Monday, 16 December 2019.
"There will be industrial bins placed immediately opposite the refuse site gates. Council's waste contractor will empty these bins daily," said Cr McMullen.
"The new construction will not interrupt the weekly urban general waste collection service."
"This construction phase is stage one of the Mitchell Refuse Site Redevelopment Project."
Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience.
