Maranoa Regional Council’s first Business Breakfast was held on Wednesday, with attendees deeming the event a great success.

Forty people attended the Breakfast in Mitchell, held at the Berkeley Lodge Motor Inn.  Local residents and business owners joined Councillors and Council staff at the function, aimed at “Giving Business a Voice”

Booringa Action Group member and MC for the event Kent Morris welcomed guests to the sit-down breakfast.  Mayor Robert Loughnan greeted those present, before introducing Council’s newly appointed Regional Economic and Business Development Coordinator Mr Tim Cornell.  “This was a great opportunity to meet with business owners in Mitchell,” Mr Cornell said.  “Many businesses indicated that an online business network will help to connect businesses across the region, and this is something that can be investigated.”

Guest speakers Krystal Kouvaras from Lemon Pie Gifts and Katrina Henry from Poppy’s Boutique proved to be a highlight of the morning. Both speakers captivated the audience with inspirational speeches about their personal experiences and challenges overcome as small business owners.

Maranoa Regional Council would like to thank Booringa Action Group for their help in both promoting and setting up for this event.  Council would also like to thank Kent Morris for kindly donating his time as MC for the morning and the local businesses that sponsored the function.

Council look forward to hosting more business breakfasts across the region, coinciding with the General Meetings in each major town throughout 2009 and the beginning of 2010. The next breakfast will be held in Roma on 24 November, 2009.
