Council is calling for local young people aged 12 to 25

If you are between the ages of 12-25 years, looking to develop your leadership and social skills, want to voice the opinions of youth within the Maranoa region, or create and work on projects and events for youth to participate in? Then nominate to become part of the first Maranoa Youth Council!
Youth Council membership is free and will run annually for 12 months from November to November. At the second meeting of each new council, nominations for Executive Positions will be called including; Chair, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Youth Council members will get to work closely with Maranoa Regional Council’s Regional Youth Coordinator, Samantha Grant, and will have the opportunity to assist with a variety of regional and national community events along with investigating projects of their desire! Ms Grant said the first elected Youth Council members will have the opportunity to vote for the new Council’s name and also design the logo.
Applications are now open to all youth between 12-25 years and who reside within the Maranoa region. "You can be a student, apprentice or trainee, part time or full time worker or even a parent," said Ms Grant.
Applications are available now from Maranoa Regional Council Customer Service Centres or on under the community page of this website.
Applications close 5:00pm on Friday, 9 October 2009 for the 2010 Council.
"Once applications have been assessed, successful applicants will be notified via a letter offering a position as a committee member on the Maranoa Youth Council. Offers will need to be accepted or declined by the successful applicants by the said date on the letters.
"Once the committee has enough members to operate; minimum being 4 and maximum being 14, the first meeting will be organised for members to get together." Ms Grant also ighlighted the Council will endeavour to hold meetings once a month, with days and times to vary depending on committee members availability.
