Residents of Injune celebrated as Local Member Howard Hobbs officially opened the town’s newest facilities.

Celebrations took place in Injune on Wednesday as the Injune Multi Purpose Complex, the Injune Memorial Hall, Security Lighting at the Industrial Estate and Henricks Park were officially opened by Member for Warrego, Howard Hobbs.  One hundred residents were present to witness the opening of the new facilities that now form such an integral part of the local community.

Mayor of Maranoa Regional Council, Mr. Robert Loughnan expressed his appreciation of Local Member Howard Hobbs’ participation in the opening.  “I am really delighted that Mr. Hobbs could take the opportunity to open this whole of community precinct,” Mr. Loughnan said.

All four facilities represent different aspects of a revitalised Injune, and have drawn the community together through their efforts in bringing the projects to fruition.

The creation of the Multi Purpose Centre included upgrades to the Injune Memorial Hall and construction of the new Multi Purpose Complex.  The new Complex houses the Injune Visitor Information Centre, Library, Museum area, offices for visiting service providers and Council offices.  It is hoped that the new Complex will become the central hub of Injune and form a basis for Injune to expand and grow into the future

Newly installed security and street lighting in the Injune Industrial Estate is of major importance for both the local businesses and wider community, being successful in increasing security in the area.  Substantial funds were invested into the subdivision by the Injune community, in an effort to promote and increase industry.  The new lighting has proved to be a valuable asset with a significant reduction in crime and complaints since the installation of the lighting.

Henricks Park represents a collaboration of the entire Injune community, with many volunteers donating their time and resources to progress the site.  Mr. Hobbs expressed his admiration for the dedication of the Injune community in completing this project.  “Henricks Park is a credit to all the hard workers involved, especially the Public Space Art Group who had up to 60 volunteers.”  The land now known as ‘Henricks Park’ was kindly donated to the Injune community, through the former Bungil Shire Council, by Neville and Judy Henricks.

The Federal and State Government contributed in excess of $700,000.00 to these projects.  The former Bungil Shire Council and Maranoa Regional Council contributed in excess of $1.25 million for the creation of these facilities.
