Maranoa Regional Council has now opened its second round of Community Grants and Assistance Program to assist community groups to undertake projects and activities through the provision of funding or in-kind assistance.

Maranoa Regional Council Manager of Community Development, Noela Ward, said “the program enables community groups to make application to Council for a funding or in-kind assistance grant to assist with the delivery of ‘one-off’ projects or activities which will directly benefit the region’s residents.”

Council has also decided to extend the ongoing assistance category of the program for this round, however Ms Ward explained this will be the last opportunity for groups to apply for ongoing assistance for this term of the current Council.

“Any community groups that have in the past received regular grants or in-kind assistance, such as waiver of fees from either Maranoa Regional Council or the pre-amalgamated Council’s, for their events or activities are strongly encouraged to submit an application,” she said.

The first Round of Council’s Community Grants and Assistance Program was very competitive with 153 applications being received.  Ms Ward said Council was extremely pleased with the response to the first round of grants, “it was pleasing that the program was able to support such a diverse range of activities and projects which will directly benefit the region’s communities, particularly as many of the groups, or the projects, may not have met the strict eligibility criteria of other mainstream funding programs.

“Although Council’s program has set eligibility criteria and funding limits, the Community Development Team is keen to assist community groups in bringing their projects to fruition and invite any group to contact our Community Development Coordinators to discuss their projects,” Ms Ward said.

Applications for grants opened on 1 August and will close on 30 September 2009.   Funding up to a maximum of $10,000 is available under the program and interested groups can make application to Council by completing an application form which is available from Council Customer Service Centres or Council’s website.
