Communities are set to receive enhanced community development services as Council approved funding, in the 2009/10 Budget, for two new Community Development Coordinators, one based in Yuleba and the other in Mitchell.
A review of the current framework and service delivery efficiencies of the Maranoa Regional Council’s Community Development Division has identified the need for the creation of two new Community Development Coordinator positions.
Maranoa Regional Council Manager of Community Development, Noela Ward, said "these positions will increase efficiencies and productivity which will enable the Community Development Coordinators based in the regional communities to deliver improved and additional youth services and other additional regional programs within their respective communities."
The Community Development Coordinator (Mitchell) will service the communities of Mitchell, Mungallala, Amby, Dunkeld and Muckadilla, whilst the Community Development Coordinator (Yuleba) will service the communities of Yuleba, Wallumbilla, Jackson and Noonga.
"With the allocation of Community Development Coordinators in each of the major townships, these positions would not only deliver community development programs and activities, but would assist other Regional Coordinators to deliver programs, activities and events within their respective base communities," she said.
The current organisational structure for the Division of Community Development consists of five Regional Coordinator positions covering a range of portfolios, of which three Community Development Coordinators deliver community development services and programs to six major townships and thirteen smaller communities throughout the region, which covers 58,830 square kilometres and services a resident population of over 13,000.
Council anticipates these changes will enable Community Development Co-ordinators’ to allocate one third of their time to the delivery of youth programs, services and activities within their respective communities.
