Share your views for the exchange of the Mitchell locomotive
Maranoa Regional Council is seeking the views of the community regarding their preferences of the items offered by Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway (QPSR) in exchange for retired Mitchell locomotive C170, which is currently in the Memorial Park at Mitchell.
Residents are invited to a community consultation on Wednesday, 3 April 2019, starting 5.30pm at the Mitchell Shire Hall.
The three options offered by QPSR in exchange for the locomotive are:
- A simulated “train” cab to be mounted in the park or elsewhere as potential playground equipment. There will also be an interpretive display installed on the site which will tell the story of the original locomotive.
- An original Westlander MAS Sleeping Car 1540 which actually travelled the Western line from Brisbane to Charleville.
- A miniature train line and riding car
The locomotive C170, spent the last 10 years of its working life in Ipswich on the Swanbank Line, and will be returning there later this year to be restored to a working locomotive by QPSR.
Deputy Mayor Jan Chambers, Portfolio Chair for Community Engagement said this is the perfect opportunity for the Mitchell community to come together and get involved in making a decision.
“Residents are encouraged to attend the session to share ideas on what would be most beneficial for the entire community,” Cr Chambers said.
If you are unable to make the session, but would like to provide comments, please fill in the feedback form, available on Thursday, 4 April 2019, online at www.maranoa.qld.gov.au, or visit the Customer Service Centre in Mitchell.
Feedback opportunities are open until Wednesday, 24 April 2019 and Council aims to have a response to QPSR after the Council meeting on Wednesday, 8 May 2019.
