Council-Senex partnership doubles grants to $30,000

Funding to community groups for important small-scale activities will double in an innovative three-year partnership between Maranoa Regional Council and Senex Energy.

The partnership has created a Small Grants category under Council’s Community Grants Program, enabling community groups to apply for grants from $500 to $3,000. These funds will be distributed from an annual pool of $30,000 provided equally by Council and Senex.

Senex Energy is a Queensland company creating about 150 jobs and investing more than
$200 million in construction of two natural gas projects in the Surat Basin to support energy needs. These projects include the Roma North development, north-east of Roma, which involves natural gas wells, a processing plant and a pipeline.

Senex Managing Director Ian Davies said the company looks forward to working with Council to ensure the Maranoa area gains maximum benefit from the grants.

“Senex will be operating as part of this community for decades to come,” Mr Davies said.

“Through this partnership we’re looking forward to helping the passionate and hardworking volunteers of the area, who do so much to keep the community strong.”

Councillor Janelle Stanford, Portfolio Chair for Community & Social Services, said the second round of Community Grant Funding is now open. Community groups have until Monday,1 April 2019, to submit applications.

“Council will continue funding the Community and Major Grant categories, which provide grants of up to $10,000 and $20,000 respectively,” Cr Stanford said.

“The grant programs assist eligible community groups and individuals to undertake projects, events or activities across the region.”

“With increased grant funding available, local groups should start planning their grant applications for their community projects now.”

Over the past three years, Maranoa Regional Council has provided $317,100 in funds for community groups for sporting and community infrastructure, events and volunteer support and training. Guidelines and application forms are available via www.maranoa.qld.gov.au.
