Queen's Baton Relay - Once in a lifetime event!

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay was a huge success with residents lining the streets in Roma and Mitchell to cheer on our local batonbearers.

Maranoa Regional Council would like to thank Maranoa residents for coming along and supporting our batonbearers as they carried the Queen’s Baton around town for a truly rare celebration.

Batonbearer Madison Spackman said it was a privilege to know that she held the Queen’s Baton which has travelled all around the world.

“It was breathtaking and made me speechless,” Ms Spackman said.

Mayor Tyson Golder said it was great to see so many residents and families come out to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

“It was a very special moment watching the Baton and to be part of a little bit of history – we will always remember the time the Queen’s Baton Relay came to town!” Cr Golder said.

“A big thank you to all the wonderful Council staff, volunteers, organisers, performers and community groups that made the community celebration one to remember!”
