Council Meeting Snapshot - 12 June 2019

Below are a number of highlights from today’s Council Meeting.

 

Roma Denise Spencer Pool

Council is undertaking a feasibility study into the future of the Roma Denise Spencer Pool. As part of the project a Maranoa-wide, electronic and hard copy survey is proposed to be released which will allow Council to better understand the community views and expectations for the pool and its facilities.

 

Injune C17 Locomotive Repair and Conservation

Council granted permission to the Injune District Tourism Association to complete repair works to the Locomotive and Station Building and also will provide funding of $14,000 to assist with the works.

 

Skyline Camera Installation at Roma Airport

The project to install skyline cameras at the Roma Airport was endorsed by Council with West-Tech Systems being chosen as the preferred supplier at a cost of $1,880 excluding GST.

 

Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Black Spot Funding Program

Two proposals will be submitted to TMR for consideration under the Black Spot Program:

McDowall/Wyndham Street Intersection
Local Roads of Regional Significance – Rural Roadside Hazard and Curve Delineation Program.

 

Council will also advocate on behalf of the Jackson Noonga community to the Department of Transport and Main Roads for them to seek funding under the Black Spot Program in relation to two Warrego Highway intersections (Jackson Wandoan Road and the turn into Jackson).

 

Public Art Installation in Mitchell

Council acknowledged the request from the Friends of the Mitchell on Maranoa Gallery to reconsider the planned location of the metal bull and will commence a formal approach to the Department of Transport and Main Roads, via a Road Corridor Permit, to install the bull on a plinth in the eastern garden bed in front of the Mitchell Library.

 

Cobb & Co Changing Station Surat

Crozier Schutt Associates are being engaged to provide curatorial services for the release of Stage 2 of ‘The Drovers’ Story’ Exhibition.

 

Local Development and Arts and Culture Positions

Council resolved to advertise the following two positions: Local Development Officer – Yuleba, Wallumbilla and Jackson and Specialist Arts and Culture.

 

Roma Big Rig Café

Roma Thai advised of their intention to cease their management agreement for the operation of the Big Rig Café. Tenders for the operation of the Café will be called.

 

John Murray Memorial Precinct in Mitchell

The request from the Booringa Action Group was acknowledged with Council providing $5,500 to the Group to assist with the costs of resurfacing the area for the precinct.

The following two items were also recommended: That Booringa Action Group enter into an agreement with Mitchell Foodworks and Mitchell Bakery to ensure the space is retained as a community space and is accessible by all members of the public and that the resurfacing be carried through from the footpath in the same style.

 

Muggins Lane Bridge, Yuleba - Condition Assessment

Council noted that a recent Level 2 Inspection of the timber bridge on Muggins Lane has classified the bridge, and a number of its critical components, to be in an unsafe condition, in accordance with the Transport and Main Roads Structures Inspection Manual. As another route is available for use by traffic, Muggins Lane Bridge will be removed from service, while a subsequent report is developed within two months, detailing an analysis of the options for the current bridge.
