Council Meeting Snapshot - 11 April 2018
Below are a number of highlights from today’s Council Meeting.
Building Our Regions Funding Program
Council will submit an expression of interest under the Building Our Regions program to improve digital Connectivity in Surat and also advocate to the Federal Government that Surat be regarded as a high priority for improved telecommunications.
Joint Funding Submission for Exclusion Fencing
Maranoa Regional Council has agreed to partner with Balonne Shire Council for a joint application to the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund for Exclusion Fencing.
Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF)
The latest round of successful RADF recipients jointly funded with the State Government are:
- The Silversmiths Roma Group – Ring or pendant gem setting workshop
- Isolated Children’s Parents Association (ICPA) – St George Branch – Qualified Art Teacher for the Breakout Art Camp (Distance Education Students Camp)
- Booringa Action Group – “Ngulalma Ngalinda. Because of her we can.”
- Roma on Bungil – “Built Your Self” Exhibition
- Injune Arts – Tutors to conduct workshops at Injune’s Creative Odyssey Weekend
- Creative Injune – “The Power Within” Workshops
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Maranoa Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Making of Local Law No. 8 Waste Management
Due to State Government legislative changes, Council will need to commence the process of making a new local law for waste management to allow Council to retain its ability to manage waste matters in its local government area.
Request from Noonga Community Association
Council will support the Noonga community request to lobby State and Federal Government for allocation of funding to improve the Jackson – Wandoan Road and the intersection with the Warrego Highway.
My Maranoa Business
The tender for construction of the Roma Saleyards Improvement Project was awarded to five star local business Brett Pollock Constructions Pty Ltd.
The Roma Saleyards Improvement Project is a joint initiative of Maranoa Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
Sponsorship of The Great Elders Cattle Muster
Council approved for The Great Elders Cattle Muster to be incorporated into the Roma Saleyards store sale on Tuesday, 15 May 2018, with Council sponsoring the event by waiving all selling fees and charges associated with cattle donated and sold.
