Regional Roads Advisory Committee
Maranoa Regional Council manages 5,607kms of rural roads, with the Maranoa region ranking third in the state (out of 77 councils) for the length of its entire road network. It is shorter to drive from Cairns to Perth than it is to drive our rural road network.
The Regional Road Network has been identified as Strategic Priority 4 under the Council’s 2014-2019 Corporate Plan, which states that:
We aim to sustainably administer, maintain, renew and upgrade the region’s road network, incorporating the related functional areas of kerb and channel, stormwater drainage, lighting, footpaths and other pathways.
The group meets every six (6) months and meetings are chaired by Cr Janelle Stanford, in her capacity as Portfolio Chair for Rural Roads & Grids.
Objectives:
In forming Regional Roads Advisory Committee, two key focus areas for the group will be:
- Providing input into how Council can achieve value for money in maintaining the expansive road network, and
- Sharing local knowledge about how Council can best prioritise works, as well as source local materials, such as gravel and water.
